(From John Mason) The questions you posed regarding the influence on me of my father were thought provoking. I never knew my grandfathers… My father did demonstrate love. He was quick to frustration and then anger. I learned or inherited this quality. He slapped me when he got frustrated…My son never experienced this physical display of anger. I’d say that I am comfortable with my anger and know/showing frustration but I am not certain that this is a good role model for getting along. My father was not driven to be financially successful and I inherited this behavior/attitude. My father was controlled by his fear and I have chosen to follow my mother’s fearlessness much more. My father was gregarious in the way he would extend himself to talk with people and I have this characteristic. My father had beady eyes and I have beady eyes. He was driven by the need to serve in his way as I am driven by the desire to serve in my way.

My own determination to be different from my father led me to doing many things exactly the same as he did. My transformation came as a result of learning that I have my own unique expression which is neither the same as or in opposition to him.
